WWE announced that Alberto Del Rio defeated Big Show at Tuesday’s Smackdown taping in Miami to become the new World Heavyweight Champion.
It’s the second time in less than a month that the company has revealed a title change at one of its tapings, both times in an attempt to draw viewers for the accompanying television show.
While Del Rio getting the title shot and winning comes a bit out of left field, it makes sense given Del Rio’s recent face turn, allowing for the constant intrigue of Dolph Ziggler cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase. With Big Show as champion it wasn’t likely considering both his size and that he and Ziggler are both heels.
Why do they spoil it?
I guess they figure the spoilers will get out there anyway, so they might as well beat them to it and try to draw in viewership.
